I love the movie a lot but man does that scene drag down the rest of the film for me. The film ended up with a budget of 200 million, an astronomical pricetag for an animated movie. But there's a part of pretty much every Pixar movie except Cars that makes me start crying and I'm 25 and a guy. The scene with Bonnie at the end makes me just absolutely lose it. These toys have been through everything, so what did the incinerator scene add but a few tears in the audience? TOY STORY 3 MOVIE REACTION Today I'll be watching a film I have never seen before Toy Story 3 released in 2010 for the first time. All the living members of the Toy Story cast returned. Toy Story 3 especially since I was 9 when the first one came out and in college for the last one. These are the toys that grabbed onto the wheel of a fucking plane to get home to their owner, but an incinerator is too much? Where's the struggle? Why the hell do they just give up? And what does it say that they get saved by the biggest cop-out, deus ex machina in recent film history.Īlso what did that moment do for the characters? Strengthen their bond? That was already strong when they escaped the daycare. After escaping the trash shredder, All the toys are on another belt that leads to an incinerator. I guess what bothers me so much about it is that it completely goes against the spirit of the toys from the other two films. Im Lots-o-Huggin-Bear, but please call me Lotso.Lotso introduces himself to Andys toys Lots-o-Huggin Bear ('Lotso' for short) is one of the main characters in Toy Story 3. The incinerator scene is extremely emotional even if you only look at the still frames. With everyone slowly holding hands and just accepting death, it's so painfully forced. This is what Darla Anderson meant by setting it up and paying it off. It's a great scene but from an entirely different movie. After escaping the trash shredder, All the toys are on another belt that leads to an incinerator. I feel that the incinerator scene is insulating because it manipulates the audience into crying even though it makes no sense. Disney & Others Meets Toy Story 3 - The Incinerator. Death Takes a Holiday (1934) Fredric March is best known to horror fans for his Oscar winning performance in Dr. Though it’s difficult to confirm definitively, the opening credits indicate that Death is played by Brigitte Helm who also famously plays Maria and the Maschinenmensch (aka Machine Man) in the film. Freder is unnerved, and he later hallucinates that the statue of the Grim Reaper comes to life, playing a bone as a flute and swinging its scythe. First, Freder (Gustav Fröhlich), the heart of the movie, sees a statue of Death centered among other statues representing the seven deadly sins. Metropolis, the 1927 German masterpiece by Fritz Lang, features the Grim Reaper briefly in a pair of highly memorable scenes. Metropolis (1927) Much of the original version of Metropolis was thought to be lost until a print was discovered in Argentina in 2008. However, the robe Georges wears and the scythe he carries are clear indications of who and what he represents. The spirit that visits David is his friend Georges (Tore Svennberg) who died a year prior, so he is technically a grim reaper and not the Grim Reaper. As David’s soul leaves his body, he is visited by a ghostly man in a carriage who attempts to help David see the harm his actions in life had on others. The movie follows David (Victor Sjöström), a drunkard and unrepentant jerk who has a near-death experience after being hit on the head with a bottle. The Phantom Carriage is one of the earliest depictions on film of a scythe-carrying representation of Death. Movies About the Grim Reaper The Phantom Carriage (1921) The Phantom Carriage is notable not only for its impressive special effects, but also because of its influence on famous Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. Either way, this list chronicles the most notable depictions of the Grim Reaper in movies along with a few interesting variations. Or perhaps it’s because audiences aren’t terribly eager to be directly confronted with their own mortality. Perhaps it’s the Reaper’s traditionally grim demeanor that keeps him (or her) out of the spotlight. Since then, the Grim Reaper has appeared in movies in various forms, some more human than others.Īs a character and an archetype in film, the Grim Reaper is used in far fewer films than more popular supernatural entities like vampires and witches. However, The Phantom Carriage(1921) may be the earliest reaper-like appearance of Death, complete with a dark robe and scythe. In movies such as The Phantom Carriage (1921) seen here, the Grim Reaper is often the conduit for a morality tale.ĭeath as a character in movies goes back to the silent era with early portrayals seen in films like Eerie Tales(1919). Much later, the name “Grim Reaper” was first used in association with the personification of Death in the book The Circle of Human Life (1847). The image of a scythe-wielding skeleton stuck. With the Black Death killing millions of people in the 14th century, the idea of a soul-harvesting figure creeped into everyone’s minds. The image of the Grim Reaper as a skeletal figure wearing a black, hooded robe and carrying a scythe is thought to originate in Europe during the 1300s. The most recognizable form of Death in Western culture is that of the Grim Reaper. Since dying is a natural part of life, people throughout history have personified Death in various ways. Building codes almost always require that a gate be both self-closing and outward-opening from the pool area. Pool Gate CostsĪdding a pool gate typically runs from $200 to $500. They stretch across the top of the water and attach to secure anchors spread evenly around the edge. They work like covers, only using netting instead of a solid fabric for added safety. Nets for spas and hot tubs range from $500 to $1,000. Mesh swimming pool covers cost $1,200 to $3,200 on average. While not fences, nets provide another layer of safety. Note, however, that privacy fences are less safe than mesh, glass, or chain-link options if you have pets or kids because you cannot see through them to determine if your pets or kids need help. As their name implies, they offer visual privacy, letting you enjoy your pool without being self-conscious about intrusive onlookers. Composite privacy fencing costs between $22 and 34 per linear foot, all-in. Wooden privacy fences cost $27 to $60 per linear foot, all-in. They are generally wood or composite and come in solid panels. Privacy pool fences cost $2,500 to $13,000, or $10 to $60 per linear foot. Provides an unobstructed view of the swimming area. We discuss major brands in the above “mesh fence” section. Unlike glass, they’re soft in case your child runs into it. Plus, these materials provide caregivers with the best, unrestricted view of the pool area to help keep little ones safe.Ĭhild Safety Mesh: $1,500–$2,500. Once they're mobile, babies and toddlers can fit through surprisingly small gaps, so a mesh or glass fence is the safest option, as there are no gaps. Baby Pool Fencesīaby pool fences cost between $1,500 and $20,000, and are either mesh or tempered glass. Cost of Other Pool Fence TypesĪside from the standard pool safety fence, there are a few other types of fencing for pools to consider. Removable pool fences are the cheaper option, but they're not as secure as permanent fencing, and they don't work well on slopes or where a step-down is necessary. They work on a bi-lateral tension system, so they need regular inspection to ensure secure positioning. Temporary pool fences are usually made from tough plastic mesh and come in large panels of around 15 feet. Removable pool fencing costs around $2,500 to $3,200, compared to the $1,500 to $10,000 costs of installing a permanent pool fence. You can cut costs by using already existing structures, such as running it between a garage and a home. Step-down configurations-commonly used to deal with difficult sloping terrain-are challenging and time-consuming to get right, so labor costs increase.Īlthough most professionals price projects as a total amount, they typically find that figure by using linear feet measurements. Having to do significant regrading at the fence site can add a day or more to your labor total, which costs up to $640. Elevation ChangesĮlevation changes can increase labor costs by up to 50%, depending on the gradient, the building material, and the terrain and topography. The labor cost to install a pool fence is $60 to $80 per hour, so you could spend an additional $640 for every day of additional labor required. If you don't want to use concrete, but instead build your pool fence right into the soil, labor costs will increase significantly. It provides stability and durability and makes it easier to create a nice, even elevation and high-end, professional finish, even if you need to go over uneven terrain or form a step-down setup. Concrete WorkĬoncrete slab costs $4 to $8 per square foot and creates the foundation of your pool fence. Custom colors and finishes, such as a veined copper powder-coated finish for a metal fence, will carry an extra charge. While most colors are factory standard and figured into the base price of the material you choose. The cost to stain or paint a fence ranges from $1 to $3 per square foot. Powder coating a metal fence costs an average of $3 per square foot. A fence of around 48 inches costs considerably less per linear foot than one of 60 inches.Įxpect to pay up to 50% more for materials if you choose a custom fence height rather than a standard 48- or 60-inch fence that comes in prefabricated panels. The bare minimum pool fence height is 48 inches, although some municipalities require a fence of at least 60 inches tall. The height of your pool fence can increase the cost of fencing materials by 20%. Consider the implications of these elements when figuring out your project budget. Many variables influence how much you'll pay for your pool fence, including the height of the fence, the color, concrete work needs, and elevation changes. Out into my brain, because they're very close Jump out in your brain, we just learned this in Jump out in my brain- and I don't know if they One is going to be positive, and one is going to be Numbers have to be minus 56, have to be negative 56. Just to really get well honed this skill. Plus negative 7, but that'd be equal to negative 5, so that We're done! That worked! I mean, we could have tried 2 This in a different color- if I do negative 2 plus 7, Now what about 2 and 7? If I do negative 2- let me do And 1 plus negative 14 isĮqual to negative 13. So let me write all of theĬombinations that I could do. Going to try out things- 1 and 14, negative 1 plusġ4 is negative 13. Two, do I get 5? So if I take 1 and 14- I'm just Or I'm really kind of taking the difference of the When I add them, if one is positive and one is negative, And when I add the two, a plusī, it'd be equal to 5. Is positive, and one of them is negative. Negative, right? a times b is equal to negative 14. Minus 11x, plus 24 is going to be equal to x minus Work out, right? Because we have a negativeģ and negative 8? Negative 3 times negative 8 So when you look at these,ģ and 8 jump out. Let's take the negative of both of those. Two factors, when I add them, should I get 11? And then we could say, Multiply these- well, obviously when I multiplyġ times 24, I get 24. Times 24, 2 times 11, 3 times 8, or 4 times 6. And they both can't be positive,īecause when you add them it would get youĪ positive number. Remember, one can't be negativeĪnd the other one can't be positive, because the Their product is positive, tells me that both aĪnd b are negative. The fact that their sum is negative, and the fact that Now, if when I add them, I getĪ negative number, if these were positive, there's no way IĬan add two positive numbers and get a negative number, so Need to be positive, or both of these need to be negative. Let's up the stakes a littleīit, introduce some negative signs in here. Out, and see that this is indeed x squared plus This would be equal to x plus 5, times x plus 10. Let's try out these numbers,Īnd see if any of these add up to 15. So what could a and b be? Let's think about theįactors of 50. You do, you're going to see that it'll start toĬome naturally. And this is going to be a bit ofĪn art that you're going to develop, but the more practice Numbers that, when I multiply them I get 50, and when Plus 10x, plus- well, I already did 10x, let's do aĭifferent number- x squared plus 15x, plus 50. Whatever's my constant term, myĪ times b, the product has to be that. You should put it in that form, so that you canĪlways say, OK, whatever's on the first degree coefficient, And of course, this has toīe in standard form. You take their product, have to be equal to 9. Say, all right, what two numbers add up to thisĬoefficient right here? And those same two numbers, when Leading coefficient on this quadratic is a 1, you can just This, when the coefficient on the x squared term, or the Videos, you'll see that it is indeed x squared plusġ0x, plus 9. Out, using the skills we developed in the last few So we could factor thisĪs being x plus 1, times x plus 9. So a could be equal to 1, andī could be equal to 9. You'll have 3 plus 3- that doesn't equal 10. So what are the factors of 9? They're 1, 3, and 9. And normally when we'reįactoring, especially when we're beginning to factor, What are the factors of 9? What are the things that aĪnd b could be equal to? And we're assuming thatĮverything is an integer. Match this to that? Is there some a and b whereĪ plus b is equal to 10? And a times b is equal to 9? Well, let's just think about Middle coefficient on the x term, or you could say theįirst degree coefficient there, that's going to be This is the product of two binomials, we see that this Plus- I can write it as b plus a, or a plusī, x, plus ab. In the middle right here, because they're bothĬoefficients of x. X squared, plus x times b, which is bx, plus a times x, Two things, what happens? Well, we have a little bit What happens if we were to take x plus a, and multiply How do we do that? Well, let's just think about Quadratic expression, x squared plus 10x, plus 9. In this case, in all of theĮxamples we'll do, it'll be x. Have a variable raised to the second power. Polynomial, or just a quadratic itself, or quadraticĮxpression, but all it means is a second degree polynomial. Bunch of examples of factoring a second degree polynomial, You should create a new resume for every prospective employer. In some cases, specially tinted color blind glasses can help people with color blindness see colors more accurately. Color blind tests can make you aware of any color vision problems you have so you can take appropriate measures to compensate for your color blindness. Though there's no cure for color blindness, having a color blind test to screen for the condition is very useful.
